Redness, tightness and discomfort are common signs of reactive skin, which may respond more strongly to external factors. Changes in temperature, stress and UV exposure can intensify these symptoms, particularly when the skin’s protective barrier is weakened. As a result, the skin loses water more easily, becomes more prone to irritation and requires appropriately selected skincare.
Contents
For skin prone to redness, it is therefore important not only to reduce visible symptoms, but above all to support its proper functioning. Skincare should help maintain an adequate level of hydration, strengthen the skin barrier and minimise the impact of factors that may increase skin reactivity.
The Forest Retreat – a calming facial emulsion developed in our Laboratory – was created to address these needs. Its formula combines 14 advanced botanical extracts, including wild indigo, moss stem cells and the proprietary Oio Lab Skin Resilience Complex™, to support the skin barrier, its natural protective mechanisms and resilience to stress.
Facial redness is primarily associated with changes in blood flow within the skin and the dilation of blood vessels. Depending on the underlying cause, inflammatory processes may also be involved, so redness may be accompanied by a sensation of heat, burning or increased skin sensitivity.
One of the factors that may increase skin reactivity is a weakened protective barrier. A properly functioning epidermis helps minimise water loss and protects the skin from external factors. When its function is impaired, the skin becomes more prone to irritation and may react more strongly to stimuli that previously caused no such response.
Both environmental factors and everyday habits can affect skin reactivity and the visibility of redness. Changes in temperature, stress, strong emotions and intense physical activity can cause temporary dilation of blood vessels and make redness more pronounced. Skincare practices can also affect skin reactivity. Over-exfoliation, frequent use of strong acids and harsh cleansers can compromise the skin barrier, making the skin more prone to irritation.
Photoprotection is particularly important, as UV radiation increases oxidative stress, may contribute to inflammatory processes and can affect the condition of blood vessels. In skin prone to redness, visible redness may be associated with increased blood vessel fragility and reactivity. During menopause, hormonal changes may, in turn, contribute to sudden hot flushes and temporary facial redness.
It is important to remember, however, that not all redness indicates a dermatological condition. During physical activity or in response to strong emotions, increased blood flow can naturally cause temporary dilation of blood vessels and redness. If redness persists, recurs or is accompanied by burning, itching or other concerning symptoms, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist.
Reactive skin needs skincare that helps minimise factors that may increase its sensitivity while supporting the proper functioning of the skin barrier. Maintaining adequate hydration and using a gentle cleanser are key to removing impurities without compromising the skin barrier. In daily skincare, it is also important to avoid over-exfoliation and ingredients or formulations that cause stinging, tightness or noticeable discomfort.
This does not mean that caring reactive skin This does not mean that caring for reactive skin requires a more complex routine. Consistency and choosing well-tolerated formulations are more important than the number of products used. Protection against UV radiation is also an essential part of the routine, as UV exposure may increase oxidative stress and intensify skin reactions.
The Forest Retreat – strengthening the skin and reducing redness
The needs of reactive and redness-prone skin were the starting point for the development of The Forest Retreat, formulated in our Laboratory in Poland. This calming facial emulsion combines 14 advanced botanical extracts with ingredients that support the skin barrier, its natural protective mechanisms and resilience to stress.
The key ingredient in the formula is wild indigo seed extract, which has been used in™ Ayurvedic tradition for centuries. It supports the skin’s resilience to stress, helps limit cortisol production and reduce redness and signs of fatigue. The formula is complemented by moss stem cell extract, which support skin balance, and the proprietary Oio Lab Skin Resilience Complex™. The complex supports four pillars of the skin’s resilience to stress: the microbiome, pH balance, lipid barrier and natural protective mechanisms.
Designed to address the needs of reactive skin on multiple levels, the formula strengthens the skin and helps reduce redness while supporting its barrier and resilience to external factors.
The effectiveness of The Forest Retreat was confirmed in instrumental tests and consumer in-use testing. Instrumental tests use specialised equipment to measure real changes in the skin, including a reduction in the appearance of redness. Consumer in-use testing shows how participants assess the formula’s effect on the appearance and condition of the skin.
Selected results confirmed by studies:
*Instrumental studies use specialised equipment to measure actual changes in skin parameters. The antioxidant activity of the formula was confirmed in studies conducted by the Poznan University of Medical Sciences and the Poznan University of Life Sciences.
**Consumer studies: 20 participants aged 18–60, 4 weeks of use.
For reactive skin, it is important to choose a skincare routine that is gentle on the skin. Rather than introducing multiple products and highly active ingredients, it is worth focusing on a few essential needs: gentle cleansing, maintaining adequate hydration and supporting the skin barrier. Consistency is also important – redness-prone skin tends to respond better to a consistent, well-tolerated routine than to frequent changes in products.
The first step of the routine should be as gentle as possible. O-Mega Milk removes makeup and impurities while supporting the lipid barrier and skin hydration. Its formula combines ectoin with the proprietary Oio Lab Omega Barrier Complex™, making cleansing an integral part of skincare rather than simply preparing the skin for the steps that follow.
After cleansing, it is worth providing the skin with ingredients that address its current needs. Aquasphere, a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, is particularly beneficial when the skin feels dry, tight or dehydrated. Five forms of hyaluronic acid provide multi-level hydration, while the Oio Lab Aqua Retention Complex™ helps minimise water loss and retain moisture in the skin. If reactivity and loss of comfort also affect the delicate eye area, the routine can be complemented with All In Eye – an eye and eyelid serum that supports hydration, firmness and skin structure in this delicate area.
After serum, apply The Forest Retreat as a key step in caring for redness-prone skin. This creamy emulsion supports the skin barrier, its natural protective mechanisms and resilience to stress, helping to reduce redness and improve skin comfort.
Importantly, morning skincare should also include sun protection. Regular photoprotection is particularly important for redness-prone skin, as UV radiation may increase oxidative stress and intensify skin reactions.
